Best Gay Bar (Readers' Choice) - "One word why gay men love Backstreet: Raven. The quintessential Glamour Drag Queen pairs Wonder Woman fierceness with Cher showmanship for a performance that's always packed. Decked in a seemingly endless line of headdresses, Raven makes her audience work, stripping the obligatory straight boy down to his boxers or slinging those signature fire batons. Sure, there's the throbbing dance floor and hot guys for days, but it's Raven who keeps the queens coming back."
Best Dance Club (Readers' Choice)- "Backstreet is Atlanta's members-only club open to everyone, provided you have an open mind. There's no guarantee it will have an open dance floor, though. It may have one of the largest, colorful, gay and straight floors in the city, but on the weekend, especially among the late-night crowd, it's pretty packed. But there's sure to be someone willing to share their space, which is part of the charm. Plus, it's probably the only place where it's acceptable, almost expected, that you enter at night and emerge bewildered in the daylight."
Best After-Hours Club (Readers' and Critics' Choice) - "What once was ground zero for the dance-till-dawn queer crowd has emerged in recent months as Atlanta's party melting pot. The circuit boys and club kids are still there, but outnumbering them on weekends is a strong post-Buckhead contingency. Charlie Brown's X-Rated Cabaret remains the terror of tourists and reluctant frat boys, while the downstairs dance pit is doubtlessly pumping even as you read this."
