Description: |
Casa Cubuy is a special, tranquil place where you can contemplate the wonder and beauty of the rain forest that surrounds you. Sleep late, sunbathe on granite slabs and boulders worn smooth by eons of cascading waters. Slip into a natural Jacuzzi and let the water gently massage away the tensions of city life. (Above) Relax in a hammock on the verandah, read, or just watch the clouds float by in this setting of giant tree ferns, soaring breadfruit trees, and wild orchids. Explore trails to prehistoric Indian rock carvings. Located above Naguabo in Puerto Rico.
Casa Cubuy offers a less stressful alternative than the busy North side of the El Yunque Rainforest. This quiet retreat lies nearly at the top of the road on the south side of the mountain.
Lush tropical hillsides, breathtaking views, small towns nestled into valleys are what you see on your way to Casa Cubuy. Then, up the mountain! Casa Cubuy is perched on a hill above a river with many waterfalls.
A short uphill trek from the house on a paved road brings you to the El Yunque National Forest.
From there you can walk the old road to the slide area and beyond, with a couple of trails leading to other rivers. Easily walk able - they take you through jungles of bamboo, palms, ferns, and fern trees. Listen to the birds' songs. It is magical.
Pool in the Cubuy River, just down the path from Casa Cubuy's Balcony.
From the house, on the path down to the river are lovely examples of native exotic tropical flora and citrus trees, bananas, and plantains. The path crisscrosses the hillside and ends at a tranquil pool along the river. There is a shelter to retreat to when it rains, or when the sun is high. The cool pool can be bracing.
The waters at this elevation are clean enough to drink! and refreshingly cool. Just above and below this pool are waterfalls you can hear from your bedroom at night along with the song of the Coquis. There are nearby hiking trails in the rainforest to other rivers and waterfalls.
