The Pro Shop was opened in 1976 by Gail Anderson and her son Mike. The bar was originally a sports bar serving beer, wine and sandwiches. The plan was to open a golf shop in front, as Mike was an avid golf fan but that all changed when the Anderson's hired a lesbian bartender, Nancy O'Neil. Slowly, the gay community began frequenting the pub and business tripled. Since then, thousands of patrons have visited the bar and today The Pro Shop is one of the longest continuously owned gay bars in the country.

The Pro Shop has had a long and interesting history, including a visit by the famous "Lady Chablis" at their 25th anniversary party. While many bars in this area come and go, the Pro Shop Pub remains a staple in our community. Unfortunately, Miss Gail passed away on June 20th, 2001, but she will live on in the hearts of all those who were blessed to have known her and the family continues to operate the Pro Shop Pub just as she would have wanted.
